If you continue to prefer to use Running Object Snaps, know that you may have to toggle it off by hitting the F3 key so AutoCAD won't accidentally snap to an object when you don't want it to which may be causing you the problem you're encountering. You can always then hit the F3 key again to toggle them back on.
