From naked photographs at sacred sites to causing havoc in sushi bars - here are some of the mishaps that have caught out influencers while travelling abroad.

From disrespecting cultural norms to doing anything at all for an Instagram-worthy selfie, it's not exactly uncommon for influencers to fail to read the room before posting their antics abroad online.

The most recent social media slip-up was made by the Ingham Family who, to their whopping following of 1.38million, shared a YouTube video about their visit to Auschwitz.

Despite content creator mum Sarah saying: 'I’m not sure what we will be able to film while we’re in here today, but anything that we are able to or we feel appropriate to will obviously be done with respect,' they still managed to cause offence.

The video, which has amassed more than 30,000 views, included clips of inside the concentration camp – despite the museum’s filming policy stating that permission is required to film for commercial use, including on social media and YouTube.

After receiving backlash for the footage online, it seems the clips have since been removed from the video. The Daily Mail previously contacted the family for comment.

But the Ingham Family aren't the first influencers to cause trouble on holiday – plenty of others have made mishaps, too. Here we take a look at the worst offending influencers abroad...

One woman, who wasn't identified at the time, was called out in 2023 for taking naked photographs with a 700-year-old sacred tree in Bali.

The Kayu Putih tree is located at the back of a temple in Tabanan, about 23km (14 miles) north-west of Denpasar.

Indonesian senator Ni Luh Djelantik posted the pictures on her social media and said: 'To all foreigners who disrespect our land, Bali is our home - not yours!'

'Do you think you'll look cool taking naked pictures on our holy trees? Go back to your country if you can't respect our tradition and culture!'

The mystery woman was reportedly arrested following the photo shoot in the majority Muslim nation.

Russian yoga influencer Alina Fazleeva was deported for posting similar photos at the same sacred tree in 2022.

After receiving backlash on social media, Ms Fazleeva later posted an apology video where she prayed at the base of the tree, fully clothed, and expressed her 'regret'.

Indeed, clothing, or a lack of it, seems to be a common issue for online influencers holidaying abroad.

Ex-Love Island star Georgia Steel was reportedly slammed by locals in the Maldives for posing topless for Instagram snaps in 2021.

The Sun reported at the time that a local source said: 'It may seem strange to Westerners, but coming here and failing to observe our laws and customs is incredibly insulting.

'Influencers who think the Maldives is just a great backdrop for their Instagram should stop and think before one ends up in jail.

'The resorts could also be in serious trouble if guests like Georgia are found to be generating [nude] images on the premises'.

In another example, Australian influencer Mikaela Testa shared in a video on TikTok in 2022 that her accommodation host had instructed her to cover up during a trip to the Cocos Islands.

'I landed in Cocos yesterday, and the lady that owns the Airbnb that we are staying in received calls from some locals, saying that I should be wearing something more culturally appropriate, because this island is predominantly Muslim,' she said.

'So today I am covering up to show some respect, and I respect their wishes one hundred percent,' Mikaela added.

Beyond inappropriate clothing, other social media trends have also caused havoc in the past.

In 2023, conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Japan were forced to introduce hygiene rules for customers, after a video went viral of a boy licking communal soy bottles and putting them back for others to use.

Other diners began to copy the clip, which was taken in Sushiro, and shared their own antics online, the BBC reported.

One clip apparently showed a diner licking a communal spoon used for green tea powder.

Another featured customers piling wasabi on top of passing sushi plates, spoiling them for others.

'As a company, we will continue to respond firmly with both criminal and civil cases,' Sushiro told the news outlet at the time. The restaurant also replaced all of the soy bottles at the targeted store in Gifu.

Meanwhile, beauty influencer James Charles was criticised last year after he made a TikTok video about Bunnings' famed charity sausage sizzle.

Meanwhile, beauty influencer James Charles was called out by Aussies after incorrectly naming an iconic Australian snack

The clip featured the make-up artist stopping by a Gold Coast Bunnings hardware store to sample the iconic Aussie snack – which involved a cooked sausage served in a slice of white bread – for the first time.

But after constantly referring to the sausage sandwich as a 'hot dog', some Aussies called for the social media star to be 'deported'.

'Your visa needs to be revoked,' one TikToker joked on Charles's post.

'Stop disrespecting our culture,' another person chimed in, while one more suggested he leave the country.
