The presidents of Freshuelva, José Antonio Martín, and Huelva Riega, Fernando González, signed the agreement. It establishes a general, stable framework for jointly developing projects, studies, programs, and activities related to water, irrigation, and agriculture in the province.
The partnership is founded on a shared understanding that water is a strategic resource for Huelva's economic, social, and environmental development. It also reflects the need to bring together both organizations' knowledge, experience, local presence, and ability to engage in dialogue to help secure the future of Huelva's agricultural sector.
The agreement outlines several areas of work: training and capacity-building; research, innovation, and knowledge transfer; exchanging information and experiences; promoting the value of irrigation in Huelva; improving the efficiency and sustainability of water use; and planning and managing water resources.
Freshuelva and Huelva Riega also plan to carry out coordinated initiatives with public administrations, river basin authorities, European institutions, universities, technology centers, and business and professional organizations on matters where they share common objectives and interests.
To finalize and monitor the planned actions, the agreement establishes a Joint Monitoring Committee comprising representatives from Freshuelva and Huelva Riega. The committee will identify priority areas for collaboration and propose joint projects and initiatives. The agreement will initially be in force for two years, with the option to extend it by mutual agreement between the two organizations.
