Today 7/30/26 at noon I took this rather crappy phone image of this aircraft on approach to Spokane International (KGEG) runway 21. My phone camera doesn’t do well at full zoom. I made a mental note to look up the arrivals on FlightAware. After the Louisville MD-11 crash, I thought all those (and any airworthy DC-10’s) were effectively grounded indefinitely, so this was a huge surprise (the airworthiness directive originally did not have an approved compliance protocol, effectively grounding them. Maybe that has changed?). My initial thought was MD-11 but I’m not sure. It definitely is not a KC-10.
The picture itself isn’t really clear enough but this did not look like a military plane, maybe they could fly a grounded plane on a ferry waiver. Fairchild AFB is adjacent to Spokane International. For the past month I spend 3 hours a day, 3 days a week, watching from a good spot to see planes on both approaches (they intersect each other). This was very much on the Spokane approach, not Fairchild’s. Sometimes, military planes do lane at Spokane.
Even if this was on a ferry flight I figured there would still be an ADS-B record of it.
The Spokane airport arrivals list on their website doesn’t go back far enough for me to see.
Neither FlightAware and Flighradar24 have a record of this plane coming into Spokane at any time today, when looking by aircraft.
I suppose there is a small chance that is a military plane and it landed at Fairchild and I didn’t see it line up with that approach. But that is really not likely. I’ve seen a ton of planes on this approach
