Top collector Beth Rudin DeWoody has listed her Upper East Side co-op for $12 million, for the second time since 2018. She previously took the apartment off the market in 2020.

At 5,000-square-feet, the 10 Gracie Square fourth-floor apartment boasts incredible East River views and a massive amount of space, including a 32-foot-long entrance gallery, an expansive living room, a formal dining room, a terrace, four bedrooms, two staff rooms, a laundry room, and an eat-in kitchen, complete with paned windows and herringbone floors. If that’s not enough, Rudin DeWoody hired architect Alan Wanzenberg, who had previously worked for I.M. Pei, to renovate the apartment.

For her part, Rudin De Woody seems to have stuffed the massive residence with some eclectic artworks from her more than 10,000-piece collection, among them, a 19th-century Gothic revival cabinet and a Charles Lutz Brillo box-turned-coffee table in the sitting room, a Tony Matelli sculpture balancing slices of honeydew in entryway, and geodesic dome on the living room’s piano. Every room in the apartment is decked out with pieces from Rudin DeWoody’s collection, including works by Willem de Kooning, Richard Avedon, and Cy Twombly.

Those who have had the pleasure of meeting Rudin De Woody know that she is a tour-de-force, often purchasing in a flurry. “It’s hard for me not to buy,” she told Artnet News in 2020. “Even when I run out of money.” That vigor and passion, however, has been a gift to many artists like Rob Wynne, whom DeWoody met when she fell in love with one of his metal flies; he told the Wall Street Journal in 2010, “there is no one more supportive.”

Rudin De Woody is a fixture of ARTnews Top 200 Collectors list, having appeared on each edition since 2005. She has residences spanning Los Angeles, New York, and West Palm Beach, Florida, where she established the Bunker, an invite-only art facility. Raised only a block away in a building run by her father and real estate executive Lew Rudin, she moved into the New York apartment with her two children following the end of her marriage to the artist James DeWoody.

When DeWoody last listed the apartment in 2018, she told the Wall Street Journal that she wanted to sell to spend more time in Los Angeles near her children. “I don’t like to sell,” she told Apollo, “but every once in a while I have to, because I run out of money buying things.”

The building was also once home to Brooke Astor and Gloria Vanderbilt who raised a young Anderson Cooper upstairs.
