What to KnowEx-Stoughton cop Matthew Farwell is accused of strangling Sandra Birchmore at her Canton apartment in early 2021 after she told him that she was pregnant and that he was the father. DNA evidence later showed that he was not the father of the unborn child.Farwell, who was a police Explorers volunteer, allegedly used his authority and access to groom, sexually exploit and then sexually abuse Birchmore when she was 15. He continued to have sex with her when she became an adult.Birchmore’s therapist and a close friend took the stand on Friday’s half day of testimony. Prosecutors have indicated that they could wrap up their case next week.
A half day of testimony was held Friday in the murder trial of former Stoughton police officer Matthew Farwell, accused of killing a pregnant Sandra Birchmore and staging her 2021 death as a suicide. Birchmore’s therapist and a close friend testified, and prosecutors have indicated that they could wrap up their case next week.
Opening statements were on Oct. 9 and the first prosecution witnesses took the stand last week. The case has drawn national attention and is the latest Massachusetts criminal case in the spotlight after the recent trials of Lindsay Clancy and Karen Read.
