MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Rassvet low-Earth orbit satellite constellation will comprise several hundred spacecraft that will provide next-generation satellite communications, Dmitry Agafonov, Deputy CEO for Business Development and Products at Bureau 1440, said in an interview with the Vesti TV program.

"We’re talking about several hundred spacecraft in low Earth orbit that are interconnected via laser communication terminals to ensure precisely this seamless transmission of information from any point on the planet to the final recipient. We’re talking about user devices. These are subscriber terminals. We’ve already introduced a line of digital subscriber terminals as part of our digital solutions," he said.

According to Agafonov, Rassvet will employ a polar constellation, which will ensure the broadest possible coverage across Russia. The constellation will support solutions in various fields: from geological exploration to emergency rescue services.

In addition, Bureau 1440 terminals will be installed on high-speed trains and long-distance trains. By 2027, the terminals will be installed on more than 500 trains, Agafonov added.

In 2026, Bureau 1440 successfully launched the first two batches of spacecraft for the Rassvet low-Earth orbit constellation. The spacecraft are equipped with 5G NTN-based communication, an upgraded power supply system, next-generation inter-satellite laser communication terminals, and a plasma propulsion system.
