Intel continues to refine support for its future architectures on Linux, and the latest news is that the Nova Lake-S and Nova Lake-P processor families will have SR-IOV (Single Root I/O Virtualization) support in their integrated graphics, working alongside the modern Xe graphics controller.
This feature allows a single graphics card to be divided into multiple independent virtual interfaces. In practice, this means you can directly assign the integrated GPU of these processors to several virtual machines simultaneously. Each virtualized environment gains direct hardware access, achieving near-native graphics performance without relying on expensive dedicated solutions or slow emulation methods.

The patch, developed by Intel engineers, adds the PCI IDs for Nova Lake S and P (along with the server-focused Crescent Island platform) to the xe-vfio-pci device table. This allows the operating system to natively link virtual controllers for easy management by user-space virtualization tools.
Regarding the release dates for the official kernel, it’s likely we won’t see it immediately. With the Linux 7.4 integration window about to open and the testing period closed, everything points to this change being implemented in the Linux 7.5 cycle, unless the company decides to release it as an early fix.
For open-source enthusiasts, system administrators, and home server users, this news confirms Intel’s commitment to virtualization in its consumer processors. Nova Lake not only aims to deliver a leap in performance but also to make getting the most out of the integrated GPU in virtualized environments more accessible than ever.
