If all goes well, those near Bootleg Canyon could soon see people flying through the air with the greatest of ease. That or hanging on for dear life and screaming at the top of their lungs.

During the recent Boulder City Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, an update was given by P&R Director Julie Calloway on where things stand with the existing city-owned 1.2 mile-long zipline in Bootleg Canyon.

FlightLinez operated the zipline for several years but closed around the time of the COVID pandemic. Since then, the city has been seeking a new vendor to take over operations.

Recently, the city has been in talks with the California-based company, Skull Canyon.

“I would love to tell you that I have an updated report on the zipline but all I can say is that we have had one meeting since the last time that we met,” Calloway said. “We’re still working on some of the arrangements.

“The contractor, Skull Canyon Ziplines, definitely seems very interested in coming out here. They want to make sure it’s going to be successful for both the purveyor and us as well. So, we’re still in contract negotiations with that organization with hopes that we get it operating very soon.”

According to its website, “Welcome to Skull Canyon — Southern California’s home for high-speed ziplining, aerial adventure challenges, and unforgettable outdoor experiences. Whether you’re a first-time flyer or a seasoned thrill-seeker, our rugged canyon landscape offers the perfect backdrop for soaring high, pushing your limits, and enjoying the outdoors like never before.

“From heart-pounding zipline tours to elevated obstacle challenges on the Sky Gym aerial adventure park, each adventure is professionally managed, expertly maintained, and designed to deliver maximum fun in nature’s playground — all just a short drive from Los Angeles or wherever you may find yourself in and around SoCal.”

An attempt to reach a spokesperson at Skull Canyon was unsuccessful.

In a 2015 Review article, FlightLinez’s then-general manager said the zip line operated daily and had only closed six times for weather that they knew of. Since opening, more than 80,000 people had flown the four zip lines that make up the route.
