MILTON, Fla. (WKRG) — When Hurricane Isaias hit the Gulf Coast, devastating parts of Northwest Florida and South Alabama, Feeding the Gulf Coast took its work on the road.

According to a Feeding the Gulf Coast news release, since the storm passed, nearly 350,000 pounds of food and emergency supplies have been distributed to communities affected by the storm.

“Our teams are working alongside community partners across South Alabama and the Florida Panhandle to reach affected families and respond to emerging needs,” the release said.

Many people are dealing with damage to their homes and some are still without power, resulting in unexpected expenses.

“When a hurricane causes this level of damage, many of our neighbors are left facing immediate challenges, including access to food and clean water,” said Michael Ledger, president and CEO of Feeding the Gulf Coast. “Our priority is getting food, water and essential supplies to affected communities as quickly as possible. We are working closely with our partners to respond to immediate needs and will continue providing assistance as communities begin the long process of recovery.”

Those needing food assistance can visit the Feeding the Gulf Coast website for local food pantries and distributions or for disaster response updates.
