Grimes has announced her new album, PSYOPERA, in the most Grimes fashion possible: an Instagram video with surreal visuals, bumping synths, and cryptic voice-over that drops biblical references and personifies LLMs. Today, she also dropped a new single from the forthcoming project, “ACCELERANDO.”

The initial teaser, which Grimes posted a few times in different formats, starts with the text, “Please wait patiently for the failure of the system.” Grimes is then heard saying, “Welcome to the game,” before launching into her monologue about God, artificial intelligence, Eden, etc. A disoriented voice then cuts in, speaking from a first-person perspective, asking questions like, “Where am I?” Presumably, we’re hearing the point-of-view of an AI, an assumption that is supported by comments she made in an chat with Interview Magazine and the teaser’s title, “Eve is online.” Watch it below.

As Grimes tells it, despite her thematic obsession with artificial intelligence, she did not use any generative AI for the new batch of songs. At the time of writing, Grimes has not yet revealed the release date for PSYOPERA. Once it finally arrives, however, it will serve as her first album on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC.

The new song, “ACCELERANDO,” made in collaboration with VADAKIN, plays with the juxtaposition between bubbly vocals and pulsing, ominous synths. The production is icy and aggressive, with Grimes eventually giving into the tension and letting out full-on shrieks. The music video for the new track is scheduled to go live later today on YouTube. Stream “ACCELERANDO” below.

PSYOPERA will mark Grimes’ first album since 2020’s Miss Anthropocene. In the years since, the artist has remained in the public eye, however, in part due to her relationship and legal tiffs with one Elon Musk. Last year, she also released the AI-themed track “Artificial Angels” (a previous VADAKIN collaboration), which made our list of the best songs of 2025.
