Apple has announced the HomeView, the company's first smart display, at a media event in New York City. The HomeView costs $299, preorders are open now, and sales begin November 13 in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Singapore, and South Africa.

The device has a 7-inch square Liquid Retina display and comes in two versions at the same price: a countertop model on a speaker base and a wall-mounted model. Apple's A18 chip powers both, and color options are silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray.

HomeView does not run iOS or iPadOS. It uses a separate operating system Apple calls HomeView software, and there is no App Store. Apple instead provides a curated set of apps, including FaceTime, Messages, and Safari, plus selected third-party media apps such as Spotify. Apps built for CarPlay can also appear on HomeView automatically if they are installed on the owner's iPhone.

Video streaming apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+ are not available at launch. Those services would only appear if their developers support the CarPlay framework, so video playback currently goes through Safari.

Siri AI, the assistant Apple revamped in iOS 27, is the main way to control the display. It can draw on personal context from the owner's iPhone, such as a song a friend recommended in Messages, and it can control devices added to the Apple Home app. A Camera face shows up to nine security camera feeds at once.

Hardware details include:

• a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera and a four-microphone array
• two full-range drivers in the screen, with a down-firing woofer and two passive radiators in the standard base
• a brightness range from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, the lowest Apple has used on any screen
• support for up to six iCloud profiles, with face and voice recognition to switch between users

Apple says face recognition data stays on the device. Personal content only appears when the user's iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network and was recently unlocked, which keeps one household member's messages hidden from others.

Buyers should check their iPhone before ordering. HomeView setup requires an iPhone, not an iPad, and the full Siri AI feature set requires an iPhone with Apple Intelligence support, meaning an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Older iPhones can complete setup but lose app actions and personal context queries.

Apple also announced the HomePod Mini 2 for $149, a $50 increase over the original, with sales starting October 30. The HomePod Mini 2 ships without Siri AI, which Apple will add later through a software update.

The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K costs $299, a $170 increase over the previous model, and includes the A19 chip, 128 GB of storage, and a remote with Find My support. It ships November 13.

The Apple Home Collection adds cameras, a video doorbell, a deadbolt, thermostats, and sensors made with LG and Schneider Electric, priced from $40 to $350. Those products arrive in December, and the thermostats and lock will only be sold in the US and Canada.
