Yemen’s Houthis struck at the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry this week with an attack on Aramco’s headquarters, part of an expanding campaign against key infrastructure across the Gulf state. 

With the Iran-linked militants threatening further attacks and demonstrating they can reach targets ranging from Jeddah to the kingdom’s eastern oil heartland, the escalation is raising questions about what critical infrastructure could be hit next as Riyadh confronts growing economic damage. 

What happened: In a statement Wednesday, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed the group had launched ballistic and cruise missiles and drones at Aramco facilities in Dhahran, an Aramco refinery in Riyadh and King Khalid International Airport. He warned that attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities would continue “in the coming days,” while urging shipping companies, civilians and workers to leave the locations.

At least one of those strikes successfully reached its target, with a blaze erupting at Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran on Tuesday night. Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry described the fire as limited, although unnamed sources with direct knowledge of the incident told Reuters that the building suffered extensive damage, including severe destruction to its upper floors.
