The start-up was selected from more than 430 other applicants spread across the continent.

Lios, a Dublin-based deep-tech start-up, has been named as one of the top 10 winners of the seventh European Start-up Prize for Mobility (EUSP).

Backed by the European Parliament, the event took place in Luxembourg with the goal of connecting sustainable mobility start-ups with European institutions, investors and industry. The company was selected from more than 430 other applicants across the continent.

Initially established as Restored Hearing in 2009 by Rhona Togher and Eimear O’Carroll, Lios is the name behind SoundBounce, a compact acoustic material designed to reduce noise and vibration in applications including vehicles and aircraft.

Lios’ current area of focus is on sound and vibration control for electric vehicles, aerospace designs and urban transit systems, as a means of reducing noise pollution and improving performance, safety and passenger wellbeing.

Commenting on the win, Togher, who is also the CEO, said: “European mobility is undergoing a massive transition, and quiet, efficient technologies are central to that evolution.

“Standing on stage in Luxembourg alongside such visionary founders reinforced the strength of Europe’s mobility ecosystem. We are honoured by the recognition from the EUSP evaluation team and look forward to the next steps of the European Tour.”

Dan Sobovitz, the managing director of the European Startup Prize for Mobility, added: “This year’s selection reminds us how much mobility innovation happens behind the vehicle, in battery materials, energy production, infrastructure planning and everyday operations.

“Our role is to connect these teams with the public institutions, industrial partners and investors who can help bring their solutions into use.”

As part of the winners cohort, Lios will take part in an accelerator programme powered by TUM Venture Lab Mobility and participate in an upcoming EUSP European Tour, with locations set to include Barcelona, Spain and Le Mans, France.

Earlier this year, Lios renewed its contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) for a second time to deploy its sound technology for space travel. The co-funded contract was valued at almost €2m.
