An employee of an east Las Vegas business was shot and killed Thursday when he tried to stop an attempted robbery, police said.

Metropolitan Police Department investigators were looking for three men in connection with the shooting, Lt. Robert Price said in a briefing Thursday.

Metro dispatchers received a call of a person shot inside a business in the 3400 block of East Flamingo Road, near South Pecos Road, at about 11:40 p.m., Price said.

Arriving officers found a person suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Price said. That person died at the scene. Price did not provide a description of the victim.

Price said that preliminary evidence suggested three men entered a business at complex and attempted to rob it.

The person who was shot was an employee who attempted to stop the robbery “by lunging after” one of the suspects, prompting one of the three men to shoot the employee, Price said.

Price said there were multiple businesses in the complex and added he wasn’t immediately sure which business was targeted.

“We’re actually trying to figure that out right now,” Price said. “It appears that there’s a retail business, like a barber shop and some shoes were being sold out of it, there’s a lot of miscellaneous stuff.”

The suspects fled in an unknown direction, Price said.

Price said the shooting was an isolated occurrence. He encouraged anyone with information to contact Metro homicide detectives or Crime Stoppers of Nevada.
