Southern Railway has accorded permission for lift - on and lift -off operations of containers at Tiruchi Goods Yard. This will facilitate the transfer of containers between road vehicles and railway wagons using suitable container handling equipment. 

This arrangement is expected to create opportunities for businesses and logistics operators to utilise rail transportation for container freight. The approval is an important milestone for Tiruchi Division in its efforts to expand freight business, attract new traffic, and strengthen the role of railways in providing efficient logistics solutions to the region. 

It marks an important step towards expanding freight operations in Tiruchi Division beyond conventional bulk commodities and strengthening its potential to attract container traffic, a press release from the Tiruchi Railway Division said on Thursday.
