GLENDALE, Calif. — The Filipino American Business Association of Glendale and Greater Los Angeles County (FABAG-GLAC) marked its 36th anniversary and Filipino American History Month with a community program Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Glendale Adult Recreation Center.

The program featured recognition of local police and fire personnel, tributes to two Filipino American seniors and education grant presentations to Glendale High School students.

Glendale Police Chief Robert William and Fire Chief Jeffrey Brooks attended with department personnel. The two chiefs accepted trophies and certificates of commendation that organizers said came from the mayor’s office and other government offices.

The association also honored Mary “Nene” Maceda, 97, for her community service and involvement in the arts and dancing, and architect Serge Palomo, 84, for his achievements in masters athletics.

Glendale High School students Anthony Alfaro and Brent Sales received FABAG-GLAC’s Gift of Education Grant Awards, intended to help recipients pursue higher education.

Attendees included Philippine Deputy Consul General Maria Gamble, Glendale Mayor Ardy Kassakhian, Councilmember Dan Brotman, Glendale Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Darneika Watson, school board members Neda Farid and Dr. Aileen Dinkjian, and Rob Chua of Assemblymember Jessica Caloza’s office.

The cultural program included tinikling, a Filipino bamboo dance performed by the Holy Family Children Dance Group, and a fan dance presented by the MoTHER Movement Dance Group. Lucille Floresta and Edith Fuentes served as emcees.

The association thanked donors and sponsors for supporting its cultural and educational programs. FABAG-GLAC was established in September 1990 under the Cultural Exchange Committee of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.
