Seminar: "A Field Guide to Watersheds: Division and Unity" by Eliza Griswold

Дата публикации: 29-10-2026 20:30:00

Eliza Griswold is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and director of the Program in Journalism at Princeton.
As a basic building block of systems theory, the concept of a watershed defines and divides; it also unifies. While researching her book Amity & Prosperity, One Family and the Fracturing of America, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, Griswold spent seven years reporting inside a watershed made up of concerned citizen-scientists, farmers, and families contending with the unintended consequences of unconventional oil and gas development. Griswold explored the realities and metaphors of the intergenerational industrial landscape and how it has formed community in towns like Amity and Prosperity, Pennsylvania.
In this talk, Griwsold will use the concept of watershed as a point of departure, and then be joined in conversation by Shoko Yamada, Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Sophia University, Japan and Jim Waltman, Executive Director of The Watershed Institute, New Jersey.
Free and open to the public. Join us in the Briger Hall Auditorium or stream it live.
Presented as part of the Watershed Governance in Motion workshop, an interdisciplinary group of scholars to discuss communities joined and divided by watersheds.
