The Space Needle’s legs glowed in shades of pink Friday night in honor of Dolly Parton, the legendary “Queen of Country” who died of cancer last month at age 80.

This Sept. 25, or “9 to 5,” a reference to one of Parton’s most iconic songs and the 1980 film she co-starred in, cities and shops across the Pacific Northwest paid homage to the singer with “Dolly Day” festivities.

Seattle City Council and King County both recognized the special day. Landmarks, including Columbia Tower, the Pacific Science Center, the Great Wheel and Lumen Field, added a pop of neon pink to the city’s skyline at dusk.

Since the Imagination Library, which provides books to young children, launched in Washington in 2022, Parton’s philanthropy has touched the lives of tens of thousands of Washington kids with the help of local nonprofits.
