Join the second ILT Fonts & AI conference with a focus on font tech—and two Glyphs workshops on 8 and 11 October!
‘Building on the success of our previous Fonts & AI conference, we are thrilled to announce that this year we are expanding the program to include a full range of font technology and tools. We will spend 3 days looking at how designers and font makers are working, the tools they are creating and using, as well as the latest developments in AI in relation to the world of type. We will catch up on what leaders in this space are doing, and see if and where AI can plug into font workflows. We will also take a hard look at what machine learning says it offers vs what it delivers on, its successes and failures, and questions of the ethics of AI use and environmental impact.
This year’s program will include topics related to all aspects of font technology, type tools, new scripts and plugins, and provide space for foundries to catch up on the most advanced tech that is shaping type design and font engineering. Our goal is to enable foundries to stay on top of tech and not get left behind!
The conference will take place online and will be recorded so participants can catch up later. The program is curated by: Petr van Blokland, Nadine Chahine, Simon Cozens, Simon Daniels, John Hudson, and Alice Savoie.’
From ‘oh no’ to pro in a day: we start by learning the basics of coding with Python, understanding what a variable is, a loop, flow control, a function, a class. It’s easier than you think. Building on this, we will learn how to make the most of our precious AI tokens and prompt your favorite LLM to produce neat Glyphs scripts and plug-ins.
In the first half, you will get a Python crash course and learn the basics of coding: words like objects, variables, loops, flow control and functions will be no strangers to you anymore. It is easier than you think, and there is time to go slow and repeat everything.
In the second half, we will switch to prompting AI for code generation: with the basics learned on the first day, you will know what to ask for, how to debug and get the most out of your tokens.
Stable internet connection and a Mac with the latest Glyphs 4 preinstalled.
Prompt your favorite AI to control Glyphs or enhance your type design workflow!
In this fun 3-hour workshop, learn:
- how to install an MCP Server for Glyphs
- what an MCP Server is and can do
- how to prompt Claude or ChatGPT to make changes in your font using the MCP Server
- how to configure and enhance it with new skills
- how to vibe code more efficiently with the MCP Server
Stable internet connection and a Mac with the latest Glyphs 4 and a dedicated text editor (TextMate, Sublime Text, Visual Studio Code, etc.) preinstalled. Claude or ChatGPT installation recommended.
