Tyson Fury opted against receiving his second Covid-19 vaccination due to concerns about the side effects before his fight against Deontay Wilder - before catching the virus anyway.

The Gypsy King was scheduled to face the American for a third time on July 24 but the bout was cancelled last week after Fury and a number of his team tested positive for coronavirus.

The bout is now likely to be rearranged for October 9 - at the same venue, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas - and Fury's US promoter Bob Arum explained what happened with the 32-year-old and his vaccines.

Tyson Fury rejected his second Covid-19 vaccination due to concerns about the side effects

Fury's US promoter Bob Arum confirmed that the Gypsy King did get his first Moderna jab

'He got vaccinated in Miami. He got the first shot,' Arum explained to Boxing Scene.

'And then he said he didn't wanna get the second shot because he didn't wanna get sick [from the vaccination] so close to the fight. So, he got Covid instead.'

'I knew he had one shot, and I was hoping it was Johnson & Johnson. But it wasn't. It was Moderna.'

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one jab, while Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca all require a second jab.

Fury's trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder has been postponed - likely to October 9

Despite the setback, Arum confirmed that Fury's condition has improved in recent days.

'His spirits were OK. He had congestion in his chest [last Thursday]. But as of [Monday] morning, he seems much better.'

Fury will return to England after his period of isolation for a few weeks, before returning to train in the US ahead of the rearranged fight.
