Hyundai Tucson Resale Value: How Much Has The Compact SUV Depreciated?

Дата публикации: 10-10-2026 23:45:00

The Hyundai Tucson is a compact SUV with a lot going for it, but how does it fare in terms of depreciation? Does it perform as well as its rivals?

Unfortunately, cars depreciate immediately after driving off the lot. Even more troubling is that depreciation is one of the highest individual costs of vehicle ownership. If you're interested in the Hyundai Tucson, you should also know how well this SUV retains its value. According to data from iSeeCars, which analyzes data from millions of vehicles, a Hyundai Tucson will lose 24.8% of its value after three years and 43.3% after five years. After year seven, the car will have lost 52.4%, and after 10 years, it'll have depreciated by 64.3%.

Estimates from other sources differ slightly, but are in the same ballpark. CarEdge's estimated depreciation figures for the Hyundai Tucson are slightly higher in the early years. The site estimates the Tucson will depreciate by 35.7% after three years, 47.0% after five years, and 54.0% after seven years. Its 10-year depreciation figure is slightly lower, at 59.1%.

Kelly Blue Book (KBB) data shows the base trim of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson is worth $14,950, down from its $24,885 MSRP, meaning it has lost $9,935 — or 39.9% — of its original value after five years. However, some trims have depreciated more, with the Ultimate variant losing the most value at 44.8%, followed by the Limited at 43.4%. On average, KBB's current Fair Purchase Price data suggest the 2021 Tucson has lost 42.0% after five years, closer to iSeeCars' estimate. Overall, then, we can expect a Tucson to be worth between 50% and 60% of its original price after five years.

How the Tucson compares to other compact SUVs

According to iSeeCars data, compact SUVs depreciate by an average of 39.9% after five years, slightly better than the Tucson's 43.3%. The same goes for the three-, seven-, and 10-year marks, which means the Tucson isn't the best at retaining value. This becomes even clearer when we compare it to rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Mazda CX-5.

According to KBB data, a 2021 Toyota RAV4 has a Fair Purchase Price of $25,950, having depreciated by 22.7% of its average original MSRP after five years. Similarly, ISeeCars and CarEdge estimate the RAV4 loses 25.4% and 28% of its value after the same period, which is much better than average. For the Mazda CX-5, our calculation using the original MSRP and KBB's current Fair Purchase Price data puts the average depreciation at about 36.7%. That's quite close to iSeeCars and CarEdge, which estimate the CX-5 to lose about 37.8% and 39.0%, respectively, after five years.

The Honda CR-V also holds its value better than Hyundai's offering, with data from iSeeCars and CarEdge estimating it depreciates by 29.7% and 29.0%, respectively, after five years. Using KBB's current Fair Purchase Price data, the 2021 Honda CR-V has lost an average of 27.4% of its MSRP. So, while the Tuscon is a very solid SUV, especially in hybrid guise, it's definitely not the best choice if resale value is a massive priority.
