“NYPD Blue” star Rick Schroder was hit with a wave of backlash after he used his tribute to the late Dolly Parton to rehash their political differences, specifically their clashing views on vaccines and transgender rights.

“I didnt agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support…but Loved her anyway. Thank you for choosing me Dolly to be your Movie Daddy,” he wrote in a post on Instagram, which also included a photo of himself posing with Parton.

It appeared online hours after the “Jolene” singer’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her death in a video shared to Instagram on Tuesday — and it almost immediately started making waves online.

“Oh shut up,” Boy George responded on Instagram.

“Ick,” Katie Couric added on Threads.

Rock band Garbage, fronted by Shirley Manson, also replied from its official account. “F— off Ricky Schroeder,” they commented.

Parton’s fans were also quick to call out Schroder’s post, with one writing: “Wow… you should have said nothing.”

“Leading your statement with the fact that you disagreed with her supporting transgender people and COVID public health measures shows that this bothered you far more than any love you had for her,” another Instagrammer said. “Someone as giving and loving as Dolly deserves a lot more than whatever this post was trying to be.”

Beloved by the LGBTQ community, Parton, with her unapologetic, campy aesthetic, championed unconditional love and advocated for gay and transgender rights. Following her death, GLAAD CEO Sarah Kate Ellis dubbed Parton “the queen of inclusivity and philanthropy” while praising “her support for LGBTQ people.”

Parton also donated $1 million to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in April 2020, which directly funded early-stage research needed to develop the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine

Schroder worked with the Queen of Country on two past projects: He played her father in the TV movies “Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors” (2015) and its 2016 sequel, “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.” He was also a well-known child star, with an award-winning performance in “Champs.”
