English writer Samuel Johnson once said: 'There is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or pub.'

Understandably, then, Britons on holiday are often on the hunt for the nearest pub in which to while away the hours nursing a pint (or two or three).

But what if you could enjoy a weekend spent in the boozer without having to leave the house?

Enter The Sun Inn Hawkshead, the answer to your pub-loving prayers.

Built during the 1800s, the Lake District institution has been converted into a rental – and lucky holidaymakers will get the entire pub to themselves for the duration of their stay.

The former historic coaching inn has a bar and dining room as well as an outdoor seating area, making it ideal for all types of weather.

It has a fully functioning bar, a perfect addition for a weekend staycation

There are also comfortable lounge areas in the pub to relax

A recently installed flash chiller/cooler gives you the chance to put your own keg behind the bar and pour your own pints, too.

In terms of accommodation, the pub – which can be booked through Airbnb and Booking.com – sleeps up to 20 people, across a range of bedrooms including en-suites and twin rooms.

Regarding location, you're well positioned in one of the UK's most stunning areas.

The pub's website says: 'Hawkshead is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled villages in the Lake District National Park. Car-free lanes, medieval architecture, and surrounded by fells on all sides.

'Perfectly positioned between Windermere and Coniston Water, you are minutes from some of England's finest walking, cycling, and boating.'

Prices start from £2,869 for a three-night stay, which – if you use the pub to its capacity – works out as just £143 per person.

Bedrooms are comfortable and well decorated, retaining the character of the pub

A dining room is on hand for hosting large dinner parties and events

Understandably, guests have been suitably impressed, with one saying: 'The pub was everything we needed and more. The rooms were well set up and perfect for our group. Having en-suites in every room was absolute bliss. The kitchen was perfect; especially with us cooking for 20.'

A second wrote in a review on Airbnb: 'Great pub in a great location. Very unique, the perfect setting for our stag do. Would recommend!'

Another chimed in: 'Great fun to have your own pub, very helpful host.'

'Fantastic weekend celebrating our daughter’s 30th birthday. The pub was perfect for a large family get together, spacious, well-equipped, and in a fantastic location,' another wrote.
