The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Climate Week NYC are premier global forums for leaders to align on climate and energy policy. For the energy sector, these events are critical for navigating its central trilemma: delivering reliable, affordable power, meeting aggressive net-zero commitments and funding transitional technology. Against this backdrop, Dow Jones Energy convened top policymakers and industry leaders to dissect the economic and geopolitical forces shaping energy’s future.
The week kicked off on Monday with a Dow Jones Energy networking reception at the 230 Fifth Rooftop, bringing together leaders across the energy, policy and finance sectors to set the stage for the week’s critical dialogues.
At Journal House, The Wall Street Journal’s home away from home and Dow Jones’s traveling activation convening leaders at marquee global events, programming focused heavily on the dual mandates of energy security and climate responsibility. On Tuesday Andy Critchlow, Head of Energy News, Dow Jones Energy, moderated Balancing Energy Demand Growth and Climate Responsibility alongside Samantha Gross, Director, Energy Security and Climate Initiative, The Brookings Institution and Amy Jaffe, Director, Global Energy, Climate and Sustainability Lab, Center for Global Affairs, New York University. The panel tackled the forecast that by 2050, the world will require another 20 million barrels per day of oil and debated whether existing mitigation measures are sufficient to avoid irreversible damage.

They discussed the expanding role of U.S. natural gas in global energy security, the complexities of LNG markets and the urgent need to power surging domestic demand from data centers and the AI boom.

U.S. Department of Energy, on Wednesday that moved markets. Wright outlined an energy expansion strategy aimed at lowering consumer costs and bolstering global security. Key priorities discussed included swift permitting reform to scale domestic power for AI, potential voluntary limits on U.S. diesel exports, managing strategic reserves and refocusing global institutions on energy resilience.

Stephen Donofrio, Head of Carbon Markets Intelligence, Dow Jones Energy, joined the Bridge or Breakthrough: Rethinking the Energy Transition panel to explore practical, scalable solutions that can reduce emissions within existing infrastructure.
Dow Jones Energy’s presence at The Nest Campus culminated in Making Corporate Carbon Commitments Actually Mean Something, where Andy Critchlow drove a hard look at the accountability and regulatory infrastructure surrounding corporate sustainability pledges.
Dow Jones Energy experts were also featured prominently across major media outlets throughout the week. Denton Cinquegrana, Chief Oil Analyst and Jaime Brito, Executive Director, Refining and Oil Products, Dow Jones Energy appeared on CNBC, WSJ What’s News?, CNN, NewsNation and others to dissect the international fallout of a potential U.S. diesel export ban. Meanwhile, Andy Critchlow joined Times Radio and BBC News to analyze how geopolitical tensions, supply concerns and Iranian strategic maneuvering are driving up global energy prices.
Adding to the robust carbon market dialogues, Dow Jones Energy held a prominent presence at the IETA North America Climate Summit following the launch of a co-produced white paper between Dow Jones Energy and International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) on the current state of U.S. carbon markets as it goes through a period of transition. By convening top policymakers and industry executives to tackle the central energy trilemma—balancing energy security, affordability and climate responsibility—Dow Jones Energy helped shape the critical global dialogues driving the energy transition forward.
