As we've said in the past, the Canon EOS R7 Mark II is the most highly-anticipated camera coming from Canon. The community was hoping that we'd see it in 2026 after reporting that it would be coming this year, but it is now scheduled to launch in Q1 of 2027.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II

We have only had a few mentions about what to expect specification-wise, but we're not overly confident about the information at the moment, so we'll hold that back for now. We have no interest in being wrong about what to expect for the EOS R7 Mark II.

We have already been asked a couple of times if Canon is planning to bring the EOS R8 Mark II aesthetic to more cameras in the future. While we think it's possible, we have no idea. That probably won't be known for a while. If it does happen, we really can't see them doing it with the R7 Mark II.

The “V” series camera lineup looks like it's going to expand. We currently have the EOS R6 V and EOS R50 V, which have both been well received and are apparently meeting sales expectations for Canon. Take that with a grain of sal, we don't think Canon would say the opposite. Though a few retailers have said the R6 V is doing well.

We have been told that an EOS R7 V is in the pipeline. The current announcement window is sometime in Q4 2027 or Q1 2028. That's quite a way away, that's for sure.

There are presentations with roadmaps for certain people, and the R7 V has reportedly appeared on the roadmap. The only other camera mentioned was the EOS R10 Mark II, and we think that's coming in early 2027 as well.

We also reported recently that Canon has stated that they are also focused on more “V-series” lenses, which we assume means “Z” and “PZ” lenses. There are only two PZ lenses at the moment, but we expect there are going to be a lot more in the pipeline for both RF and RF-S.

In Closing

Canon has said in the past that having more camera SKUs was a focus as they shift someone away from having “true hybrid” cameras. That's up to you to decide what the definition of “hybrid” is.

The business case for more SKUs must be there. While we don't know exactly what those would be, we imagine margins, manufacturing, lowering costs, and marketing are all parts of the equation.

We are starting to hear more about upcoming cameras, but as already mentioned, we don't have a high level of confidence yet. That doesn't mean the information is bad, but we do hope to get at least a few things out there soon.
