Sam Voss sells farmland and hunting properties in Kansas. The job keeps him very busy, but as a bonus gets him access to terrific places to hunt. Using this permission, he set up some trail cameras on a private tract and located an awesome buck he and daughter, Charlotte, named Mr. Wiggles!
“We were watching a video two weeks before the season opened and he got the name because of the way he was acting”, Sam says. “I had already been out there and had my blind on the trailer in place. Wiggles was an unexpected bonus!”
Sam had his blind set up overlooking the edge of a field where the deer were walking. When opening day rolled around, he was inside by 4:00 PM, carrying his 45-caliber muzzleloader.
Trail camera pictures of the buck gave him the name "Wiggles" based on his weird behavior. (Photo courtesy of Sam Voss.)“It was hot and very slow at first.” “I was wearing my good luck charm, my older brother Mark’s Breitling watch, which has gone with me on every hunting trip since he passed”, he says. “Just before dark a group of deer showed up, and Mr. Wiggles was number four out the gate!” No doubt, the lucky watch was working!

The multi drop-tined magnum came out 200 yards away, then worked 45 yards closer before Sam settled the crosshairs took a deep breath and touched off his smoke pole. “The immediate cloud of smoke was so heavy I couldn’t see what he did, so I sat there for a few minutes after the shot”, he adds. “But light was fading, so I decided I might need to track blood and headed over to take a look!”
Everything was going his way now, for sure. The trophy buck had fallen in place; no tracking needed… DRT!!!

Sam’s tight racked trophy has double split G2s, two drops off the left beam, another big one on the right, and long brow tines. The tale of the tape says 179 total inches. Not a bad way to start a deer season!
