Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) announced a specialised M.Tech in Materials and Minerals Processing, a self-supporting programme, under its Department of Chemical Engineering from the current academic year.

“At a time when critical minerals and advanced materials are emerging as the foundation of future technologies and global economic security, our M.Tech programme, offered in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H), was conceived to prepare engineering graduates for a rapidly changing global industrial landscape in which the ability to extract, process, refine, recover, and add value to mineral resources is becoming as important as the availability of the minerals themselves,” said SVU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tata Narasinga Rao.

The course assumes significance as the world started witnessing an unprecedented transition towards electric mobility, renewable energy, battery storage, semiconductor technologies, AI and digital infrastructure, aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing. “Behind almost every one of these technologies lies a sophisticated chain of minerals and advanced materials,” Prof. Rao said.

“Universities must prepare the students not only for today’s jobs, but also for industries that are expected to shape the coming decades”, he said, while stressing the need for a transformation in the very academic pursuit of universities.

The field offers opportunities for doctoral research, technology development, innovation, start-ups and entrepreneurship, particularly as India seeks to develop indigenous technologies across the critical-minerals value chain.

The course comes with twenty seats for a programme fee of ₹1,45,170, with admission through the APPGECET 2026. Details on admission and counselling can be found at www.cap.apcfss.in. For further information, the interested students can contact Dr. B. Sarath Babu from SVU College of Engineering at +919849568083.
