MOSCOW, October 4. /TASS/. Rosatom expects Namibia to approve its proposal to launch a uranium mining project in the country within the next few months, CEO of the Russian state nuclear corporation Alexey Likhachev told industry newspaper Strana Rosatom.

"This year, in 2026, very active negotiations have been underway since the beginning of the year on launching a major uranium project in the Omaheke Region [of Namibia - TASS] with a very beautiful name Wings. All the necessary assessments have been completed, and the conclusions have been submitted directly to Namibia’s leadership. We expect a positive decision to be made within the next few months, allowing us to enter Namibia with a specific project ready for implementation," Likhachev said.

The Rosatom chief stressed that the state corporation had been working for several years to enter Namibia’s uranium industry. "Namibia is a very active player in the global natural uranium market. By various estimates, in different years it has ranked among the world’s top three to five uranium-producing countries," Likhachev said.
