It was 78 years ago today that Honda Motor Co., Ltd., with some 34 employees filling its offices, including president Soichiro Honda. To celebrate, we thought we’d spotlight a unique parts-car yard that came across our radar in the middle of (of all places) Kansas, home to the carcasses of roughly 275 older Hondas, and nicknamed the “CRX Farm.”

Proprietor Jeremiah Freeman traffics in more than just CRXes, though; as The Drive reports, you will find in his fields “67 second-gen hatches, 20 first-gen examples, and 29 Del Sols,” yes, but also Civics, Accords, Integras, and Preludes, largely from the ’80s and ’90s, and even more pedestrian models like CR-Vs, Elements, and Odysseys.

Most of the cars on Freeman’s property aren’t in drive-able condition – he rarely sells running cars, but will if one comes his way – and are instead perfect for parts-pickers pursuing old, hard-to-find Honda components.

Freeman, who works as a registered nurse, got into the business over 10 years ago when he snapped up a classic 55-mpg (4.3-L/100-km) Honda CRX HF simply because he wanted a fuel-efficient daily driver. He got a second donor CRX so he could borrow its bits to effect some repairs on the daily, then turned to Craigslist to part out what was left of it, and realized he’d made quite a bit more money than he’d paid for the scrap car.

To make an understatement, the parts-car business snowballed from there, and has turned into quite the side gig for Freeman. He’ll even ship parts globally, if you happen to find something you need on his inventory list on Facebook.

Freeman insists he’s not very mechanically oriented, but it’s certain his CRX Farm has kept hundreds of older Hondas on the road that otherwise likely couldn’t have been kept running. Some 78 years after the automaker’s founding, we’d figure Soichiro would smile at that thought.
