Data security and privacy hinder artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, according to 70% of Philippine respondents to a Synology survey. They cited these concerns even as more than 90% see infrastructure that supports AI as important to efficiency and productivity.

The findings highlight data problems facing businesses as they introduce AI into operations, from information scattered across systems to uncertainty over how outside AI providers handle data.

Shared at the Synology Annual Media Event 2026, the survey found that around 47% of respondents face challenges with data quality and availability while 40% said their data is scattered across different environments.

About 40% lack visibility into how information submitted to third-party AI tools is managed, raising questions about businesses’ control over data used by these services.

“AI creates value when it helps people do their work better and enables the business to respond more effectively to its customers,” said Antoine Yang, head of Synology in Southeast Asia. “Our focus is to help organizations sustain those gains as adoption grows, with data they can trust and a dependable path to recovery when disruption occurs.”

About 74% of respondents favor keeping systems within their organizations or combining these with cloud services with 9.9% prioritizing the public cloud.

The survey also showed varying confidence in ransomware recovery. While 72.4% expressed confidence that protected backups would help them recover, only 25.4% described themselves as very confident.

“As businesses expand their data infrastructure, they also need confidence that essential services can recover when disruption occurs,” said Claire Huang, country manager for the Philippines at Synology.

Synology outlined plans to expand data storage, strengthen protection against disruptions, and integrate AI into workplace tools.

Its 2026 portfolio includes PAS7700, designed for critical business workloads, alongside new FS and RS storage systems. Synology Tiering and data reduction features in DSM 7.4 help businesses manage storage needs.

ActiveProtect appliances centralize backup management, protect backup data from alteration, and provide automated isolation. ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 expands support for platforms including Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, Amazon EC2, Azure VM, and Google Workspace. The DP5200 adds a compact option for growing organizations and remote offices.

AI features are also being integrated into Synology Office Suite, ChatPlus, and Meet. The DVA7400 adds AI video search and analysis to surveillance systems operated within an organization.

“When businesses can trust how their data is managed and protected, they are better positioned to turn AI initiatives into lasting business results,” Huang said.
