A dispute between two neighbors in east Las Vegas that had simmered for at a few weeks turned deadly Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Robert Price said police found a man in his 40s gunned down in his front yard on the 5700 block of East Pavot Court, just north of Vegas Valley Drive, after receiving several 911 calls about gunfire in the area.

“It appears that they’re neighbors and they were in some type of dispute in the past couple weeks,” Price said. “Today, the victim neighbor came home and as he was getting out of his car, the suspect neighbor came out of his house with a rifle and began shooting at our victim, striking him several times.“

Price said as additional officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, described as a male in his 40s, came out of his residence and was taken into custody without incident. He added that Metro investigators were looking into whether there had been any previous calls for service to the neighborhood before Tuesday’s shooting.

Price said that this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.
