Fife singer-songwriter Cammy Barnes has added a second date at the Hydro after selling out the first gig in a matter of minutes.

All 13,500 tickets for his first ever headline gig at the venue on April 23 were snapped up as soon as they went on sale on Friday morning.

The Methil musician has now announced a second date on the 22nd with general ticket sales open from October 9 at gigsinscotland.com. There is a pre-sale for fans on his mailing list from Wednesday, October 7.

It’s a remarkable achievement for the musician who sold out King Tut’s in January and only last weekend fulfilled his lifelong dream of headlining the Barrowlands.

He said: “This year is ridiculous, I keep thinking it's peaked then something even bigger happens. Literally all of my dreams are coming true, everything we have worked for all these years is happening.

“Thank you all. It's down to every single one of you who listens, buys tickets, downloads, buys a tee, follows, likes, shares.... this is all because of you.

“Headlining the Hydro was mad, I couldn't get my head round it. Then you sold it out in no time so we are doing two nights! Thank you so much."

The date of his original Hydro gig also co-incides with the launch of his as-yet unannounced debut album.

He said: “The album isn’t even really announced yet, never mind released. Obviously I’ve told everybody.

“This is so hard to take in. I only ever wanted to be able to make a living from music. That was the dream, to be able to pay the bills with music.”

The Whisky Roll star has been working towards this moment for 20 years, as a member of Red Hot Chili Pipers before going solo and picking up the guitar alongside his bagpipes.

Cammy wowed audiences on Britain’s Got Talent in 2023, and in 2022 re-worked James Blunt’s song, Bonfire Heart, for a major promotional campaign for VisitScotland. He also teamed up with renowned actor Blythe Duff for a special recording of The Pogues’ classic Fairytale Of New York.

Cammy is still a piper at heart and his clever use of the traditional instrument in his music – a contemporary take on folk, country, pop and rock – has really connected with fans.

He admits seeing Lewis Capaldi shatter traditional music industry stereotypes gave him hope and spurred him on to chase his own dream.

Cammy said: “Apparently Lewis is the only person to have announced the Hydro without an album out so I am following in some pretty good footsteps.

“I’m not anything special, just me.

“I'm just a normal boy from Methil who has been lucky, I play bagpipes and that’s all I have ever done. I never really thought I would be more than that or get to do things like this. Guys like me don’t get to do that stuff.

“When I saw Lewis at the Hydro it really sparked something, it gave me a bit of belief because he was just one of us. He is a normal dude.

“I always felt like I wasn’t cool enough, from school to the music industry, I felt not cool enough to be in the band. I felt like it wasn’t for me – what would industry people think when they saw me?”
