Straight out of Cupertino, California, Apple just dropped the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside its first foldable, the iPhone Duo. This year, it’s all about giving you actual pro-level camera controls and enough storage to hold a lifetime of 4K video. If you’ve been holding out for a major leap, the new A20 Pro chip and a true variable aperture on the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera might just be the reason to finally upgrade. If you’re in one of the first-wave markets — which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates — you can lock in your preorders starting Saturday, Sept. 12. The phones officially hit shelves (and doorsteps) on Friday, Sept. 18. For those in the Philippines, you might have to wait a little longer for the local launch, but we already have the confirmed pricing to help you prepare your wallets.
The damage: U.S. and Philippine pricingApple is finally offering a 2TB option, so you’re going to pay a serious premium if you want the highest-capacity configuration. The base models for both the Pro and Pro Max now start at 256GB, officially waving goodbye to the 128GB era. Here’s exactly how much the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will cost you in U.S. dollars and Philippine pesos:
So, what are you actually paying for? It’s not just the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera; this year, Apple is introducing a mechanical variable aperture. Apple engineered a system using six laser-cut blades that smoothly move between f/1.48 (for letting in more light in dark environments) and f/4 (for keeping more of the scene in focus, such as in group shots). That gives you true optical control over depth of field rather than relying entirely on software algorithms that can occasionally blur the edges of your subject’s hair or glasses.
To take advantage of this hardware, Apple overhauled the Camera app with new Pro controls. On both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, you can now manually adjust shutter speed, tweak white balance, and monitor exposure with a live histogram — features third-party camera apps have championed for years, now built into the native iOS experience.
On the video front, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max let you apply Cinematic effects after shooting footage at up to 60 frames per second. Time-lapses get a bump to 4K Dolby Vision HDR, while a new Audio Mix algorithm can isolate music and deliver clearer voice separation.
Apple is also trying to tackle the deepfake problem before it gets worse. A feature called Apple Reference Image acts as a cryptographic digital negative. The camera sensor signs every pixel at the moment a photo is taken, creating an unalterable reference file via Private Cloud Compute. Combined with upcoming support for the SynthID standard, photojournalists and regular users alike will have a verifiable way to show that an image is authentic and hasn’t been quietly manipulated by AI.
Everything announced about the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
Powering all this mechanical and cryptographic heavy lifting is the A20 Pro. Built on a cutting-edge 2-nanometer process, the chipset packs a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU that promises a 40% speed boost over last year’s A19 Pro, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed specifically to handle iOS 27’s demanding Apple Intelligence and Siri AI workloads natively.
Raw power doesn’t mean much if the phone overheats and throttles three minutes into a gaming session, though. To address that, Apple has finally added a vapor chamber. It’s a cooling method Android flagships have used for years, and it should improve the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max’s sustained performance when rendering 4K video or playing intensive games.
Visually, both models retain their titanium-clad identity, arriving in Black, Silver, Glacier, and a deep new Burgundy finish. Look at the display, however, and you’ll notice that the Dynamic Island has been redesigned. Thanks to underlying display tweaks, the Island takes up less physical space while now being able to display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.
Rounding out the spec sheet is Apple’s custom N1 networking chip, which quietly future-proofs both models with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. That should help keep the iPhone 18 Pro Series at the center of your smart-home and wearable ecosystem.
