Melania Trump is offering a rare glimpse into life at home with son Barron Trump, 20, revealing that their family dynamic has quietly shifted over the last year.
The first lady appeared on Fox Business’s The Big Money Show on September 23, where she gave a glimpse of her personal time with her only child and her husband, Donald Trump.
“My husband is working—sometimes he’s in the Oval Office till 9:30 at night, right? So do you wait until you will have dinner? You don’t, because he’s busy. I’m busy too,” she explained.

Then she pivoted slightly to turn her focus to Barron, and where their mother-son relationship stands right now.
“It’s less and less family time. It’s suffering because of it,” Melania added. “But that’s OK. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that’s what matters. And Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he’s maybe even happy that, you know, I just want to do my stuff. And that’s okay.”
It’s believed that Melania spends most of her time in New York City or at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Barron, who is a student at New York University, moved to the Washington, D.C. campus last year to focus on his studies. Still, a New York Post source described him in August as “pretty reclusive.”
Still, mom might be trying to give her son some independence after years of being “protective” of her only child.
“She is a doting mother to Barron and very protective of him. This is nothing new,” the insider explained to People in March 2023. “Barron has always been a first priority in [Melania’s] life. Of course, she is worried and concerned about the legal issues, but she has not done anything more to protect Barron now than she ever did. She has always put him first. She is a good mother.”
The first lady wants Barron’s personal life to stay off everyone’s radar, even making a reported rule that Mar-a-Lago members cannot post his image on the internet.
“Melania made it very clear that Barron’s privacy is non-negotiable,” a source claimed to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack. “Anyone caught filming or taking pictures would face immediate consequences, including potential banning from the club.”
For Melania, giving Barron more space may simply be the next chapter of being a fiercely protective mother.
