An 84-year-old boater who went missing near York earlier this week was found dead Friday, according to the York Police Department.

Chester Benjamin Wiggins, of Bedford, Massachusetts, was last seen alive leaving Cape Neddick Harbor on a 17-foot boat Tuesday night.

The Maine Marine Patrol is investigating his death, and his family has been notified, according to a Facebook post from the police department.

Wiggins’ boat washed up on a rocky shoreline near the east side of Cape Neddick Oceanside Campground on Wednesday night, and crews began searching for him about an hour later.

The Coast Guard suspended its search Thursday morning, but Marine Patrol and York police officials continued searching via plane and drones and recovered Wiggins’ body Friday afternoon.
