Hyperkin is giving its SupaBoy handheld a refresh later this year, with two new models set to launch in the US and Europe on October 28, 2026.

The SupaBoy Crimson and SupaBoy Prime are both available to pre-order now, bringing new translucent designs to the company’s portable SNES-compatible console. Crimson will be a limited-edition release, while Prime will serve as the new standard model.

Rather than relying on emulation or ROM files, the SupaBoy is built around original cartridges. It includes a cartridge slot compatible with Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games from PAL, NTSC and Japanese regions, meaning old collections can be played directly on the handheld.

Both versions come with a 4.3-inch IPS display and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which Hyperkin claims can provide up to 10 hours of play from a single charge. There’s also an AV output for hooking the console up to a compatible TV.

Two controller ports are built into the front of the SupaBoy as well. Original or compatible retro controllers can be connected for two-player games, effectively allowing the handheld to double as a small home console when connected to a television.

The limited-edition SupaBoy Crimson takes its colour scheme from Nintendo’s original Japanese Famicom and will apparently be the first in an annual series of limited-run SupaBoy colour variants.

The SupaBoy Prime instead draws from the Japanese and European Super Famicom, complete with the familiar multi-coloured button palette. Both consoles use translucent casing rather than the solid shells of previous models.

Crimson and Prime will replace the SupaBoy models currently being sold by Hyperkin, rather than sitting alongside them as additional variants.

Both are expected to begin shipping on October 28, 2026, with an estimated retail price of $129.99 / €129.99 / £119.99. You can pre-order over here.
