MOSCOW, September 30. /TASS/. Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov stressed the importance of the US role in addressing urgent and important issues facing the multilateral trading system, including restoring the dispute settlement system embodied in the World Trade Organization (WTO). He made the remarks in his column "G20 Trade Crossroads: Where Countries Meet or Part Ways?" for US magazine Newsweek.

"However, I believe that it would not be an unfounded allegation to state that the G20 shares the hope that the US would revert to using its authority and power to tackle more urgent and significant issues of multilateral trading system, than those on today’s G20 trade agenda – the restoration of effective and fair-trade governance, including dispute settlement system, embodied in the WTO," he wrote.

As TASS reported earlier, Reshetnikov is leading the Russian delegation to the G20 trade ministers’ meeting, which will be held from September 30 to October 1 in Milwaukee, US. The Russian ministry told reporters that participants will consider a broad range of current issues, including condemning the "weaponization" of food trade, ending the use of forced labor in supply chains, and reducing excess capacity and chronic overproduction.
