The genome sequence of the Knapweed Fritillary, Melitaea phoebe (Goeze, 1779) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae) [version 1; peer review: 1 approved]

We present a genome assembly from a female specimen of Melitaea phoebe (Knapweed Fritillary; Arthropoda; Insecta; Lepidoptera; Nymphalidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 505.71 megabases and 466.56 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (99.73%) was scaffolded into 32 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the W and Z sex chromosomes. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 15.21 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly by Ensembl identified 13,375 protein-coding genes. This work is part of Project Psyche, a collaborative programme generating genomes for European butterflies and moths.
