FDA recalls thousands more bottles of blood pressure medication due to quality issue

A popular blood pressure medication is being recalled for the second time this year by the Food and Drug Administration due to a quality issue.
The recall, for 25 mg Chlorthalidone Tablets, was initially issued earlier this year because the pills don’t dissolve properly. A that time, more than 11,400 bottles were involved.
The recall now includes 13,567 bottles, an FDA enforcement report from September said. The bottles are from Batch No. RISA24002, with an expiration date of April 2027.
According to the FDA, the pills are prescription only and were distributed nationwide.
The recall has been listed as a “Class II” which indicates a moderate risk level. According to the FDA, exposure to any products under a “Class II” recall means the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
The Mayo Clinic reports Chlorthalidone “is used alone or together with other medicines to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).” It can also be used to treat fluid retention.
It’s not the only recent blood pressure medication recall.
In October of 2025, more than half a million bottles of Prazosin Hydrochloride were recalled over concerns they contained unsafe levels of a cancer-causing chemical, with the drugmaker telling patients who take the pills to contact their doctor or pharmacy if they have the product.

According to the FDA, the Chlorthalidone tablets, which have now been recalled twice this year, failed to meet the agency's dissolution testing.
