The directors of the forthcoming Oasis documentary have revealed why they put hidden cameras in the studio to capture Liam and Noel Gallagher reuniting for the first time.

The film, titled Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger, covers Oasis’ historic 2025 reunion tour, which began on July 4 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, and concluded on November 23 at Estádio do Morumbi in São Paulo, Brazil. The epic tour also stopped at London’s Wembley Stadium, Manchester’s Heaton Park, and Los Angeles’ Rose Bowl.

The film captured the band’s rehearsals, footage from the gigs themselves, and the brothers’ first joint interview in more than 20 years. The film will premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in early September, followed by a cinema release September 11. It will hit streaming later this year on Disney+ in the UK. One of the film’s highlights is the meeting of the brothers for the first time in 15 years in a music studio, which was captured by a camera rig hidden in the room. Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace told Billboard that the reason for this was so that the band “would never see a single member of the film crew,” with Southern adding: “I don’t think Liam even realised there were cameras there for the first week.”

What struck the filmmakers the most was the emotion that came across while filming the reunion gigs. “When the lights came up at the end of the first concert in Cardiff [Wales], we have a sequence where you just see people looking shell-shocked, like they’ve been through every possible emotion,” Southern said. “Seeing that in real time [was] when we were like, ‘We knew this was going to be big, but it’s on a different level emotionally than what we’d thought.’

The personal journey of the Gallagher brothers themselves was also intriguing to follow. “Then, as the film progresses, you see the music bringing [the brothers] together,” he continued. “The [fan] reaction is a huge catalyst in where they end up in terms of their relationship by the end of the film.”

As for the future, rumours persist about Oasis returning to Knebworth, the location of their record-breaking performances over two nights in August 1996. It would be part of a reported massive UK and European tour that would a 12-night residency in Manchester.

Rumours have also circulated about the Britpop icons headlining Glastonbury next year, although Liam Gallagher bluntly shut down reports in a recent social media post.
