Isaac Atkins will not be headed to the semifinals of “America’s Got Talent.”

Voting on his performance Tuesday night in the quarterfinals put Atkins, the 24-year-old Lewiston native known on social media as the “Singing Soldier,” into the top five, falling just short of the cutoff to advance.

“I’m disappointed, but life goes on,” Atkins told the Sun Journal following Wednesday night’s big reveal.

The top three vote-getters ―dog act Acro Canine Crew, magician Kameron Marshall and comedian Daniel Alvarez ― all advance to the semifinals. Singer Lai Noelle, 14, received the Golden Buzzer from judge Kenan Thompson during Tuesday’s episode, sending her automatically to the finals.

Thompson is sitting in for Simon Cowell, a series regular judge.

Atkins performed “Way Down We Go,” a song by Icelandic blues rock band Kaleo, during the live show Tuesday night.

Upon advancing to the top five, judge and former Spice Girl Mel B talked about how special Atkins’ voice is. The former pop star had been eyeing Atkins since the audition round, even giving him the Golden Buzzer in that round that sent him straight to the live performances.

“America got it right,” Mel B said. “Your voice is musical.”

“It’s nice to get a compliment from someone like that, someone who was successful in the music industry,” Atkins said.

He said being called to the stage by show host Terry Crews to learn about his fate Wednesday night was “very anxiety-inducing.”

He said he was approached by several contestants after the episode ended and told how well he did and how successful they believe he’s going to be.

Atkins said all the contestants for this season of “America’s Got Talent” were super close, helped by the fact that they all stayed at a hotel connected to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

He said he got to know Kameron Marshall, calling him a great guy and predicting his success as a magician regardless of where he finishes on AGT.

He also said he became close with singer Pynk Beard and his band, calling them a great group of guys.

Atkins said his favorite moment from being in Pasadena for a whole week was gathering with some contestants and members of “America’s Got Talent” and singing late at night.

“You could just see everyone’s passion,” he said. “Everyone was on this show for a reason and everyone, whether they didn’t make it to the semifinals or not, is going to be successful in their careers.”

Atkins said it’s been a crazy experience knowing how far he’s come in two years since beginning to post videos of himself singing on TikTok.

“I’m glad I got the exposure,” he said. “It’s one of the best ways to get acclimated in front of a crowd as I look forward to continuing this journey of pursuing music.”

Now that he’s been voted off the show, Atkins said he’s “going back to work.” He will soon fly back to Hawaii and fulfill his duties as a U.S. Army sergeant on active duty in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
