Brett Patterson posted a total of even par across two days of stroke play qualifying to advance to Monday’s match play in the 45^th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Sand Valley Resort in Nekoosa, Wisc.

Patterson was the lone member of the contingent of Tennessee golfers to survive the weekend, finishing tied for 21^st after carding a 1-over 72 on the The Lido course that will serve as the match play host.

Nashville’s Sarah Ingram kept alive the hopes of the Volunteer State by finishing tied for 34^th in the 63^rd U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship being played at Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore.

Ingram improved on her opening round 81 by shooting 8-over 80 on Sunday, closing at 17 over to advance to Monday’s match play.

After beginning play on the back nine, Patterson was 2-under through 11 holes on Sunday before closing with a trio of bogeys over his remaining holes. The former Middle Tennessee State golfer who is now a professor of accounting at Ole Miss is hoping to make another similar run to three years ago when he lost in the semifinals in this event.

Patterson is listed as the No. 32 seed and will face Jordan Russell of Dallas in his Round of 64 match at 9 a.m. Monday following a 13-man playoff to determine the final four bracket slots.

Murfreesboro’s Jason Millard missed the cut of 3-over by a single stroke, posting his second straight round of 73 on Sunday that featured four birdies to finish at 4-over.

Franklin’s Toby Briggs rebounded to shoot even par in his second round to finish at 7-over, while Maryville’s Braedon Wear improved by two strokes to shoot 74 to close with a total of 8-over.

Knoxville’s Cody Johnson shot 75 to close at 13-over, tied with Steve McDonald of Signal Mountain who carded a 77. Former Tennessee Vol golfer and current U.S. Senior Amateur champion Mike Sposa closed at 16-over to miss the cut.

Team East Dominates Singles To Win Tennessee Junior Cup

Team East picked up 9-1/2 of the available 14 points in Singles matches on Sunday to win the Tennessee Junior Cup at The Grove by a final count of 16-1/2 to 11-1/2 .

The teams were tied at 7 points apiece following Saturday’s Foursomes and Four-Ball sessions. A fast start by Team West’s girl’s participants gave them an early advantage as Dickson’s Poppy Pewitt won 2-up over Brentwood’s Annabelle Walton and Catherine Bowie of Memphis defeated Knoxville’s Addisyn Newman, 5 and 3, to pick up the first two points.

But Chattanooga’s Charlee Spearman birdied the final hole to earn a tie with Nashville’s Eliya Brandes, swinging the momentum toward Team East that included Chloe Boyd of Liberty winning over Marleigh Chicantek by a 3 and 2 count.

That energy continued in the boys’ competition where Team East won eight of 10 matches. College Grove’s Brayden Bennett defeated Tripp Goodrich, 4 and 3; Alex Miller of Tullahoma downed Ben Blackburn of Franklin, 4 and 2; Murfreesboro’s Braxton Head bettered Nashville’s Stephen Garland, 2-up; Jayden Foster of Kingsport beat George Laskaris of Brentwood, 2 and 1; Signal Mountain’s Tucker Cruise clipped Hudson Odom of Franklin, 1-up; Maryville’s Raymond ReBell downed Thomas McGugin of Nashville, 2 and 1; Walker Webb of Brentwood defeated Dan McGugin of Nashville, 4 and 3; and Jake Eickhoff of Arrington got the better of Carson Andreoni of Jackson, 3 and 2.

The two boys’ winners from Team West were Casen Justice of Jackson over Pierce Grant of Lookout Mountain, 2 and 1, and Thompson’s Station’s Grey Anderson over Sam Otwell of Signal Mountain with a birdie on the final hole.
