Jackie Chan is alive. A post claiming he died at 72 has been spreading online for about a day, and it is a hoax. The post is a black-and-white, obituary-style image showing his name and the dates "1954-2026." Some users shared tributes before the claim was debunked.

No family member, representative, or news outlet has reported that Chan died. His most recent documented activity is film work in Azerbaijan in Aug.

Gulf News reported that one widely shared version drew more than 3.8 million views within five hours. None of the posts named a source or pointed to a statement from Chan's family, his management or a news organization.

The graphic copied the look of genuine tribute posts, which is why many people passed it on without checking. Reports debunking it began appearing on Sept. 29, including from Gulf News, Geo News, and The Express Tribune.

Chan visited Pei Chun Public School in Toa Payoh, Singapore, on July 7 and spoke to about 900 upper-primary pupils. The event was organized by the Lim Family Foundation and included recipients of the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship.

More than 20 of them practice wushu, the martial art Chan has trained in since childhood. The Straits Times reported that he told the pupils, "Please work hard," and that dreams may not come true but success is impossible without them.

Videos from the visit show him singing "Hard to Say Goodbye." That was nearly three months ago, so it says little about where he is this week.

The film is the fourth in the adventure series, with Chan returning as the treasure hunter Asian Hawk for the first time in 13 years. Kazakhstan is its main shooting location, and the production moved to Baku in early Aug.

It was Chan's first time filming in Azerbaijan. On Aug. 17, the country's Cinema Agency (ARKA) announced that the Azerbaijani portion had wrapped and called it the largest foreign film project ever carried out there.

ARKA said 26 state agencies and more than 200 local specialists took part, and that Chan met representatives of the organizations that supported the shoot. TASS reported that the film is expected to premiere in the second quarter of 2027.

In March 2011, a post on Chan's own Facebook page told fans "Jackie is alive and well" after false heart attack reports spread online. PolitiFact checked another claim on May 2, 2022, a Facebook post from a page that described itself as run for fun.

The 2026 image follows the same route as earlier versions: an unsourced post that is easy to copy and hard to trace.
