Miss America 2027 has officially been crowned.

The beauty pageant took place on Sunday, September 6, in West Palm Beach, Florida, and saw 52 women from across the country compete to see who would take home the coveted title.

Ultimately, Regan Hutsell, 25, a former Radio City Rockette from Texas, won the crown. 

Hutsell previously told People magazine that she started professionally dancing at age seven, and became interested in pageantry while she was waiting to get her headshot taken and saw pictures of pageant queens hung on the wall of the photo studio.

'I remember thinking, "I don’t know what that is, but one day I want to be a part of it. I want to do that,"' she recalled. 

Hutsell joined the Radio City Rockettes in 2019 and then spent years dancing with the Birmingham Royal Ballet in England.

She also revealed to People how her time as a dancer, specifically when she performed with the Rockettes, helped her get ahead when she started doing pageants.

'[Doing the Rockettes taught me how to] talk to people and talk about something [I'm] passionate about,' she explained.

'A big part of the Christmas Spectacular is being able to share that, not just on stage, but offstage and verbally with others - to communicate to people about why [they] want to come see the show, and what it means to come and make time for joy in the same way that [I now] get to talk about the Miss America opportunity and share all the incredible things [that come with it], like the scholarships for women, the community service initiative. 

'So those communication skills have played a vital role, as well as being able to translate who you are on stage in many capacities.'

She explained that the reason she decided to start pursuing pageants after she took a step back from dancing stemmed from her wanting to 'give back to the community.' 

'I missed doing something with people where you’re growing stronger together, where you’re having that aspect of getting into community, serving other people, but also sharpening skills and being a leader to those around you,' she added.

She was also open about the fact that she struggled with an eating disorder when she was younger.

She told the publication that her community service initiative was all about viewing your 'body as a home,' adding: 'Which stems from the fact that when I had an eating disorder, a coach sat me down and she said, "Your body’s more than your instrument, it’s your home."

'To find the other side of my eating disorder, I had to navigate that with some little mental management tools that I’ve now put in a little toolbox that I carry out with me.'

She admitted that she was 'really nervous' to start doing pageants at first, since it has such a strong emphasis on appearance.

But she said she ultimately discovered that pageants are 'not about being your skinniest self,' but rather, are 'about being your healthiest and strongest self.'

'Something that helped me was the fact that when they talk about fitness, they say that it’s about living an active lifestyle,' she shared.

'It’s not about being your skinniest self; it’s about being your healthiest and your strongest self, and it’s lifestyle-based and not one moment that you’re seeing on stage.

'I stand here, and I sit here in this chair knowing that I’m the strongest I’ve ever been, I’m the most confident I’ve ever been, I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been, and I’m very thankful I’m not the skinniest I’ve ever been.'

Ahead of the competition, Hutsell wrote on Instagram that she was 'incredibly grateful' for the opportunity.

'I'm grateful for the chance to share my heart, my story and why serving others means so much to me,' she gushed.

'I'm grateful for the Miss America opportunity and the amazing leaders who pour so much into giving women like me opportunities to grow, learn and dream big.

'And mostly, I’m grateful for my Texas village. The texts, calls, prayers, pep talks, hugs and encouragement have meant more than I could ever put into words. I may have walked into that interview room by myself, but I definitely didn’t walk in alone.

'Getting to wear TEXAS across my heart while sharing mine was pretty special. My heart is full, I’m smiling BIG, and I’m just so thankful to be here.'
