The Coimbatore Corporation has fined a contractor ₹25,000 for collecting parking fees in excess of the rates fixed by the civic body at a two- and four-wheeler parking facility in Gandhipuram, in Ward 68.

Based on complaints from motorists using the facility, officials inspected the parking lot and found that the contractor, Sumathi, was collecting fees higher than the rates prescribed by the Corporation.

The contractor was warned by Corporation officials and fined ₹25,000 for violating the tender conditions and collecting excess fees, which, the Corporation said, brought disrepute to the civic body.

The contractor was also warned that the licence would be cancelled if excess fees were collected again. The Corporation has issued warnings to all contractors operating its parking facilities to adhere to the prescribed rates.
