‘Hunting Gary Glitter’ was set to premiere on Oct. 14 on the streamer

Only a week after releasing the first trailer for Hunting Gary Glitter, streaming giant Netflix has postponed the docuseries‘ release indefinitely and removed the trailer from YouTube — all based on “new legal information.”

Netflix did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment. But in a statement to Variety, a representative confirmed the news. “This follows new legal information we recently became aware of,” the statement said. “We’re not able to share further detail at this time.”

Gary Glitter — real name Paul Gadd — was a popular British glam rocker in the 1970s known for his hits like “Do You Wanna Touch Me” and “I Love You Love Me Love.” The now-famous scene Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker (2019) showing the mentally-ill comic book villain kicking and dancing down the stairs in full costume uses his song “Rock N’ Roll, Part 2,” earning Gadd’s discography new relevance after the film’s release.

Directed by Sebastian Smith, Hunting Gary Glitter is a three-part docuseries focused on Gadd’s numerous and extensive allegations of child sexual abuse. Gadd was convicted in 1999 for possession of child pornography. After spending time in a Vietnamese jail in 2006, Gadd was convicted again 2015 for the sexual abuse of three girls and required to serve a 16-year-sentence. He was released in 2023 before shortly being reincarcerated for unknown violations of his probation terms.

The docuseries teased first-person interviews from investigative reporters, police investigators, tabloid photographers, and Good Samaritans who were instrumental in publicizing Gadd’s preferences and crimes. It also followed Gadd’s journey to evade criminal charges, including the years of his life he traveled around Cuba, Cambodia, and Vietnam to escape the law.

While the now-removed trailer featured interviews and statements regarding Gadd’s early crimes, it’s unclear how much of the docuseries focused on the disgraced glam rocker’s criminal troubles while in jail. Gadd was charged again in 2026 with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and three counts of indecent assault on a 14-year-old girl; attacks which victims say took place in the years between 1978 and 1981. This trial is still ongoing. 

Representatives for the streamer did not say in the statement to Variety whether the docuseries’ postponement was due to strict U.K. rules concerning media and reporting around ongoing trials. There is no new date set for the docuseries’ release.
