The Met Police has launched a murder investigation after an e-bike rider was killed following a crash involving a moped. 

The 24-year-old cyclist was found fatally injured after the collision in Kensington, west London, at 1am on Friday. 

Officers were called to reports of a man found seriously injured in North Pole Road about 20 minutes after the cyclist was found.

Police believe the moped had been pursuing the e-bike prior to the crash. 

London Ambulance Service also attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Met is searching for the moped rider and is appealing for witnesses to the collision and preceding events.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, leading the investigation, said: 'Our thoughts are with the victim's family at what is a very difficult time.

'We have launched a full investigation and are working hard to get answers and establish exactly what happened.

'Our team are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, including efforts to identify and trace the rider of the moped.'

He added: 'As part of this, we're urging anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the e-bike or the moped to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

'If you have any information that could help, please come forward.'

A Met Police spokesman said: 'Detectives have launched an investigation after a cyclist died following a collision on North Pole Road.

'Around 01:20hrs on Friday, 25 September officers were called to a report of a man found seriously injured in North Pole Road.

'The London Ambulance Service also attended but, sadly, the 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. 

'His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

'Enquiries are in their early stages and officers are working to establish the circumstances of the incident. 

'CCTV enquiries indicate that, at 01:00hrs, a man travelling on an e-bike was involved in a collision with a moped. 

'It is believed the moped had been pursuing the e-bike prior to the collision.'

The force is appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision, or the events leading up to it, including the pursuit.
