Jeffrey Sachs: Trump’s UN speech made his skin crawl. He spends a lot of time at the UN, and bad as it has been all these years, he says he never could have imagined a speech like that coming from the podium of the UN General Assembly addressed to representatives of the world’s countries. He compares it with Kennedy’s memorable peace speech given a month or two before his assassination. He also says that he is equally if not even more appalled by the lack of response by the US Congress, which has just been recessed to avoid voting on Massie’s bill to release the Epstein files. It has the Constitutional authority to declare war and also has the Constitutional power of the purse to withhold funds for unauthorized military action by the President. But it is sold out to the Israel Lobby and the Military Industrial Complex and does nothing to assert that authority.
