With the upcoming Qt 6.12.0 release, there will be no Qt WebEngine or Qt Pdf 6.12.0 binaries, and no webengine backend for Qt WebView

Beginning with 6.12, Qt WebEngine will be a fully separate product using its own versioning. So instead Qt WebEngine 6.140.0 will release around the same time as Qt 6.12.0. This separate release will include all Qt WebEngine modules, Qt Pdf modules, and the webengine backend for Qt WebView.

The new Qt WebEngine versioning system will feature the baseline Chromium version Qt WebEngine is based on. The first release will reuse the Chromium 140 version 6.11 was based on, but with newer features and updates, hence 6.140. But later this year we will update to be based on a newer Chromium version raising minimum supported compilers, and requiring rust.

This extends how Qt WebEngine has long be able to build against older Qt versions. Note however, the Qt version Qt WebEngine is build against will set the minimum for which version it can run on top of.

One feature of the new release separation is that WebEngine will be able to respond better to critical security issues in Chromium with new point releases. This will help Qt WebEngine and users of Qt WebEngine to abide by the new EU CRA requirements.
